December Update!

Hi there! Merry Christmas Eve!!

So I have a little extra time today, (not really, I’m just procrastinating) so here is an update on me!

- I am currently home for winter break & I am working a 50 hour work week. 7-5 everyday.

- My adorable nephew is now 4 months old & I haven’t seen him in weeks!

- I finished up my semester strong with a solid 3.5 gpa.

- I am missing my friend dearly, who is currently stationed in Afghanistan.

- I am looking forward to nothing more then spending a weekend away with my boyfriend & family.

- I am ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED that I start clinicals in a month. I know for a fact I’m going to be a mess.

- I am still baby crazy, starting to think that isn’t going to change

- I increased my academic curriculum and I am now a Nursing Major and a Catholic Studies Minor!

- I am exhausted in every sense of the word, pretty sure I got more sleep during finals week than I have this week.

- I have so much to do before 6pm tonight it isn’t even funny. HAPPY HOLIDAYS SHAN, ENJOY YOUR CONSTANT PANIC ATTACKS :)

On Me at the Moment!

Me & Benjamin! My cousin's baby boy! Such a cuddler♥

Me & Benjamin! My cousin’s baby boy! Such a cuddler♥

That is Benjy! He was born at 9 pounds. He is the sweetest thing ever! His favorite things are eating & cuddling :) So proud of my cousin & close friend Melanie! Mommyhood suites her so well! In other news, MY NEPHEW WAS BORN! Little Liam couldn’t wait to meet us. He was early (due to pregnancy complications) at 33 weeks. Liam was 4 pounds 3 ounces at birth. There won’t be pictures for a while (crazy social media everyone loves pictures) he is still in the NICU and will be for a while :( My poor pumpkin. I visited him once, but he lost weight last week (very not good) so he won’t have visitors for now. But I will tell you he is the CUTEST thing I have ever seen. I am so proud of him, he is such a little fighter!

In other news, I am attempting (emphases on attempting) to become more confident and comfortable with myself inside and out. I know I am a good person, so it’s more the don’t-believe-society-everyone-is-beautiful type thing that I am struggling with. Welp, here is my first step. HELLO WORLD. I am extremely, almost to a fault, embarrassed for people to see me without my glasses on. I think it’s because whenever I don’t have them on people comment on how “different” I look, and I don’t like that attention. But now it’s a boarder line fear of people seeing me without them. So, here you go. Here I am, no glasses, no make-up (not that I ever wear any ever lol) no nothing. Except my goofy tie-dye sunglasses that I love.

Me! I never take pictures of myself. Let alone "selfies" so here is one. My biggest insecurity is not wearing my glasses, so I figured might as well put myself out there without them. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!

That’s about it! I guess this post isn’t as exciting or as terrifying as I thought it would be in my head. (Well, terrifying yes.)

On Creating A Jar of Dates!

Hi there!

Life is going good, I am a busy bee these days! I had made my boyfriend a little surprise present for all the support he gives me; day in and day out!

This is the Jar of Dates!

Materials:

100 Popsicle Sticks

On Me (At the Moment)

I am currently…

- Obsessed with Army Wives on Netflix.

- Currently melt whenever I see a baby (:

- Struggling to stay on top of my school work this semester and it is only week 3.

- I am trying to become a better person all in all, but I realize why being lazy is a deadly sin!

- Cannot find the motivation to do anything these days except sleep

- Becoming the PERFECT college stereotype. With 0 drinking or partying. Just eating at midnight, procrastination, and not having a social life because of how much I study.

On A Surprise Date for My Man!

I was looking around for a way to surprise Robbie- as a “just because I love you” date. I feel like sometimes I get carried away in my own little world, so this was a perfect way to make him feel special :) So two weeks ago, I started looking for ideas!

I found this website, The Dating Divas- Their link is here. I had found this awesome tutorial for a Scavenger Hunt / Treasure Hunt for my man. And of course, his most prized possession is his car so I thought this was perfect. Get the print outs & see how they did it!  Our destination was the Mendon Drive-In in Mendon, Ma! It was a bit of a ride, but way worth it :) (Yes, I am a poor college student who can’t afford ink, I was so mad when the printer started running out! Thank goodness you could still read it!)

Clue #1 says: “You have the KEY to my heart.  This key leads to where the hunt starts.”

This is where it began! I had him walk the dog while I hid the clues :) First on his keys...

On How the Fight of One Little Boy Changed My Life.

Baby Corbin McHenry.

He was a blessing from the start. On April 4th he was born. When I had first found his Facebook page, I was absolutely captivated by this precious little human being, his picture was worth 1,000 words & so much more. As I began reading  the posts, first the few most recent. As my day went on, I couldn’t help but want to learn more about this brave little boy. I went on to his page, (seen here) and scrolled to the very bottom. To his birth. To the very post that started his wonderful journey.

Before Corbin, I have never heard of Trisomy 13, a genetic disorder. But his wonderful mother and father, Kara and Shane McHenry, were absolutely dedicated to support, love, cherish and advocate for Corbin every single second they could. They knew Corbin had been beating odds since day one. On each day, Corbin’s parents & grandparents would update all of his Facebook friends (He now has over 477k of them) of what he had done that day, how he was feeling and his condition. Some days he had lots of tests, and other days he was able to snuggle with Mama McHenry all day. Everyday, they would post a picture (Like this one here) with a picture of Corbin on that day, an inspirational quote, and Corbin’s birth date. I can only hope to one day be able to be as strong for my children as Kara and Shane have always been for Corbin. They had rough days, but his mother has held on to hope like no one I’ve met before. She is absolutely phenomenal.

The strength of Corbin’s family had truly shined through. This is a bigger task as it appears, considering Facebook only shows you a glimpse of their everyday reality. I had followed everyday and often have my family & even my boyfriend asking me to read them the “Corbin update” for that day from my phone. I had never met this little boy, and he had touched my life in a way no one else has.

Corbin has taught me to cherish every. single. second. Love every bit you can, forget the fight you had, don’t think of your struggles, and stresses for a few minutes. Just breath. Go outside, see the sun, and the beautiful blue sky. Take in the view. If it is rainy, look at the raindrops collecting in the puddles, look at some greenery, and see how even rain, that can often seem dark & dreary, gives life to so much of nature, and is so beautiful. Corbin had taught me this, a child I had never met, who lives hundreds of miles away. He has taught me to fight, no matter the odds, no matter the battle I am facing. I will be forever grateful for the lessons this baby & his family had taught me.

On day 135, Corbin had gained his wings, and heaven had gained the most beautiful, wonderful angel that had ever existed. Corbin will forever be watching over his mommy & daddy who had always been so supportive of him during his fight. As much as I feel no words I say can comfort them, I can only hope they are able to read this, and have some comfort in knowing the love, support, and prayers that are being sent their way. Corbin has had so much support, because his mother Kara was brave enough to put herself out there in order to share Corbin’s story. All I can say is thank you to Kara and Shane (and Kara’s mom too) for allowing us to see your beautiful lives, and you truly have forever touched my heart. I will always be praying for your family, just like I have for Corbin. My heart is saddened by your immense loss, and my family & I shed tears of sympathy for what you are going through.

On Who I am & On Being Yourself!

As I was searching through the world of blogging for some inspiration, I found this blog, Jennifer and her blog Apartment Wife

I find this quote on her About Me page so true. It’s like she took the words right out of my head (although I could never word it so beautifully!)

“We are what we love. We are the things, the people, the ideas we spend our days with. They center us, they drive us, they define us to our very core”

These are mine!
We are what we love;
The Beach
The Sunshine
The Park
The Joy and Simplicity of the Life of a Little Kid
Nature

We are the things, the people, the ideas we spend our days with;
My Family
My Boyfriend
My wonderful nephew! (Born at 33 weeks on August 3rd, such a little miracle)
Becoming a Nurse
Finishing College
Getting Married
Becoming a wife
Becoming a mother
Studying Marine Biology on My Own (For 3 Years And Counting!)
Adventure
Making Diaper Cakes
Opening my Own Etsy Shop One Day
Focused on Improving Myself
The Feeling of Holding A Newborn & Knowing How Amazing & Wonderful Life Is
A Vacation
Road Trip

What I love so much about what she wrote, it allows me to perfectly describe myself. I don’t know if this goes for everyone. If you think about it; It is harder to describe yourself than it is to do so for anyone else in your life. For example; My boyfriend is the computer wiz, who’s little brother looks up to him, & who’s niece has him wrapped around her little finger. My mom, the amazing cook who does it all, and still remembers to send a card on each person’s birthday. My dad, the hard worker who has no problem skipping time to relax in order to start a project, but can never miss a Saturday afternoon nap. Me… I don’t know? The college student. It’s much harder for me to explain my role in life than it is to others. Maybe it’s my age, because I don’t know my purpose yet.

Anyway, This is very true. Each thing on my lists motivates me. And to be honest, every thing on that list makes me proud. I am incredibly proud of my family, my boyfriend. I am proud of who I want to become. I am proud that one day I will be a strong wife and mother, and have a steady career as a Labor and Delivery nurse. Everything on my list centers me, the people on my list supports me, each thing on my list is important to me, and every idea on my list motivates me. This is a wonderful reality check for myself. So thank you Jennifer! You have a wonderful blog! Be sure to check it out here.
